Sunday August 26, 2012: The massively over do update in which I catch you up on Comfort's current progress and give you details on our adventure next weekend!!
Allright, first things first, Comfort's progress: Overall, she's doing quite well. We are working on building up strength and stamina in the trot, as well as consistancy. This quest is greatly helped by the face that I finally figured out how to ride her trot. It's not hard to ride; I just had a hard time figuring out her rhythm at first because she is smaller. To get a good trot right now, you really have to keep your heel down, and lower leg back underneath you. For a little pony she has a HUGE stride. If she keeps the same stride in the canter, she'll have not problem getting down the lines. And she really brings her hind end up under her for lots of impulsion. So you really have to keep your leg underneath you and stay with her because she is going places and she will leave you behind!
She does listen very well and she does try her best to do what you want; she is very trusting once she knows you. On the ground, she tends to kind of "cuddle up" up to her person when she's scared of something. She is a very sensitive horse; she is always paying attention to whats going on around and can get distracted easily. But she likes her job; she knows that the routine is to walk around for a while and then start trotting on the long side closest to the field, so sometimes when we are still walking, she'll try to start trotting on that long side because that's where we trot! And Comfort has learned apples!!! She quite likes them, but she doesn't understand them unless she can see the fruit under the skin... you have to either cut slices or bite off chunks for her or she doesn't understancd what she's supposed to be eating!
Now, I'm running late; I have lots to do today, and I need to get started riding. I'll post about the show and more of Comfort's progress tonight!!
